Ten ways to annoy web site visitors
WEB 101: The big NO-NO

By D. Jimenez

1. Use lots of heavy flash effects. - Your site will load very slow and not everyone is willing to wait.

2. Play background music automatically. - Not everyone will like your music, its annoyingly that simple.

3. Add a splash page. - Unless client insists, adding a splash page prevent search engines for looking and knowing what your site contains. Ergo it won't come out on search engines.

4. Put lots of photos and fewer articles. - Web crawlers cannot read photos, so search engines would not know what your site is all about.

5. Add colorful backgrounds ad neon fonts. - Strains the eyes period.

6. Size your web site to suit your 17" or larger monitor - If your user uses a laptop or smaller than 17" monitor, scroll bars is a deterrent in exploring your site.

7. Add automatic pop-ups. - If you yourself don't like pop-ups in the middle of browsing for something - why should you put it on your site?

8. Use many fonts. - The more the merrier does not apply here. It will not only look unprofessional, it will also confuse your user which article or title goes to which.

9. Use different page styles on each page. - Do this if you want visitors to get lost in your site.

10. Force visitors to register or sign-up. - If your service does not call for this, why put it. It is again a deterrent for users to browse your site.
